FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
QWhat is the best time of year to track chimpanzees in Kibale?
Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale is available year-round with a consistently high success rate (95%+). The dry seasons — June to September and December to February — offer the most comfortable trekking conditions with drier forest trails. The green season (March–May and October–November) sees lush forest, fewer visitors, and lower lodge prices, with chimp encounters equally likely. Kibale's chimps are resident and fully habituated — they do not migrate seasonally.
QIs chimpanzee trekking in Kibale physically demanding?
Kibale's terrain is relatively gentle compared to Bwindi's gorilla trekking. The forest floor is mostly flat to gently undulating, and most treks range from 1 to 3 hours. Sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes or light hiking boots are sufficient. Long trousers and insect repellent are strongly recommended. The experience is accessible for most fitness levels including older travellers.
QHow close will I get to the chimpanzees?
UWA guidelines require visitors to maintain a minimum distance of 8 metres from the chimpanzees. In practice, Kibale's habituated chimps are remarkably relaxed around humans and will often approach closer during their normal daily activities — feeding, descending trees, or moving through the forest. You will photograph and observe them at close range under your ranger's supervision.
QCan I combine this package with gorilla trekking?
Absolutely — this is our most popular combination. Adding 2 extra days extends this into a 5-day Gorillas & Chimps Combo that includes gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Uganda is the only country in the world where you can track both great apes in a single trip. Ask us about our combo packages or request a custom itinerary.
QHow does Roam Beyond's monthly payment plan work?
Choose your package, confirm your travel dates, and start saving with a 3, 6, or 12-month plan at $50/month (for this package). There is zero interest and zero hidden fees. Your chimpanzee permit and accommodation are secured once your full balance is paid. We hold your booking throughout your saving period at no additional cost.
"Kibale's 32 chimpanzee permits sell out fast — especially June through September. Secure your date today with Roam Beyond's flexible payment plan."
