7-Day Itinerary — Day by Day
Day 1
Kampala → Murchison Falls NP via Ziwa Rhino (305 km)
North on the Gulu highway. Optional Ziwa Rhino stop (rhino tracking adds $40 pp — recommended). Continue to Murchison Falls NP. Arrive evening. Briefing and overnight at Murchison lodge.
Day 2
CHIMP SITE 1: Budongo Forest + Nile Game Drive + Murchison Falls Viewpoint
Morning: Budongo Forest chimp trek ($30 permit) — Uganda's most affordable chimp tracking in one of its finest forests. 700+ chimps in mahogany forest. Afternoon: game drive on Murchison's northern bank — lion, elephant, Rothschild's giraffe, buffalo. Drive to Murchison Falls viewpoint — the point where the entire Nile squeezes through a 7-metre gap in a thundering 43-metre cascade. Extraordinary.
Day 3
Nile Boat Cruise to Murchison Falls → Drive to Kibale (Murchison→Kibale: 350 km)
Morning: the famous Nile launch cruise from Paraa to the base of Murchison Falls — hippos, crocodiles, shoebill stork, African skimmer. One of Uganda's greatest wildlife boat journeys. Afternoon: depart Murchison for Kibale Forest (350 km via Masindi and Fort Portal, 5–6 hours). Arrive late afternoon. Overnight Kibale lodge.
Day 4
CHIMP SITE 2: Kibale Forest + Bigodi Wetland Walk
7:30am: Kibale chimp tracking ($250 permit) — the world's finest chimpanzee tracking. 1,500 chimps, 95%+ encounter rate, 1 hour with the community. Afternoon: Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary — community-guided walk, extraordinary birding and additional primate sightings. This contrast between Uganda's two most famous chimp forests (Budongo and Kibale) is one of the most fascinating conversations of the trip.
Day 5
Kibale → Queen Elizabeth NP + CHIMP SITE 3: Kyambura Gorge (100 km)
Drive south from Kibale to Queen Elizabeth NP (100 km, 2 hours). After check-in and a quick lunch: Kyambura Gorge chimp tracking ($50 permit). Descend into the dramatic 100m-deep gorge — 16 isolated chimps in an extraordinary canyon setting. Tree-climbing lion game drive in the Ishasha Sector afterward if time allows.
Day 6
CHIMP SITE 4: Kalinzu Forest + Kazinga Channel + Tree Lions
Morning: Kalinzu Forest chimp trek ($30 permit) — the 4th and final chimp site. Crowd-free, raw, and surprisingly moving after the contrasting experiences of the previous three sites. Your guide leads a discussion on the differences between all four sites — ecology, chimp behaviour, forest type, conservation status. Afternoon: Kazinga Channel boat cruise — hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds. Game drive to Ishasha Sector for tree-climbing lions at dusk.
Day 7
QE Final Drive → Return Kampala / Entebbe (400 km)
Dawn game drive in Queen Elizabeth. Depart for Kampala (400 km, 6 hours). Arrive by evening. Your guide emails a complete trip report with species lists and site comparisons within 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why visit all four chimp sites?
Each of Uganda's four chimp tracking sites has a completely different character: Budongo (mahogany forest, affordable, northern Uganda), Kibale (highest density, best-habituated, world-famous), Kyambura (gorge setting, isolated community, dramatically atmospheric), Kalinzu (least visited, most authentic, budget option). Visiting all four gives you a comprehensive understanding of chimpanzee ecology, habitat variation, and conservation across Uganda that no single-site visitor can access. It's the definitive chimpanzee safari.
Is 1,235 km of driving too much in 7 days?
The driving is managed across 7 days with no single day exceeding 6 hours behind the wheel. Day 3 is the longest drive (Murchison to Kibale via Masindi, 350 km, ~5–6 hours) — but this is partly a scenic drive through northern Uganda landscapes. All other days have shorter transfers. Your private vehicle has roof hatches for game viewing and is comfortably fitted for long distances.
Can I add gorilla trekking?
Yes — gorilla trekking can be added by extending the circuit by 2–3 days after Queen Elizabeth (driving to Bwindi via Lake Bunyonyi). The additional cost is the gorilla permit ($800 pp) plus extra accommodation and transport. This transforms the package into a complete primate grand circuit — the most comprehensive primate safari available in Africa. Contact us to extend.
