Package Highlights & Location
Location
Queen Elizabeth NP (2 nights, tree lions + Kazinga) → Bwindi NP (3 nights, gorilla trek)
Key Highlights
Gorilla trek · Tree-climbing lions · Kazinga Channel cruise · Kyambura Gorge chimps option
6-Day Itinerary — Day by Day
Day 1
Kampala / Entebbe → Queen Elizabeth National Park
Drive southwest to Queen Elizabeth NP — Uganda's most biodiverse park, straddling the equator with Lake Edward and Lake George on either side. Arrive afternoon for a game drive in the Kasenyi plains — reliable for lions, elephants, Uganda kob, and topi. Overnight at your QE lodge with views across the park.
Day 2
Queen Elizabeth — Kazinga Channel Cruise + Ishasha Tree-Climbing Lions
Morning: the famous Kazinga Channel boat cruise — 2 hours on this 32km natural channel between Lake George and Lake Edward. The highest concentration of hippos on Earth crowds the banks. Nile crocodiles, African skimmer, Goliath heron, and African fish eagle line the shores.
Afternoon: drive 2 hours to Ishasha Sector in southern Queen Elizabeth — the only place in East Africa where lions regularly climb trees. Find them lounging in the branches of massive fig trees, scanning the plains below. This is one of Uganda's most iconic wildlife sightings. Game drive until sunset.
Day 3
Ishasha → Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (via Buhoma or Rushaga)
Morning Ishasha game drive — one last attempt at the tree-climbing lions at dawn. Then depart for Bwindi — 2-hour drive through spectacular Kigezi highlands. Arrive Bwindi mid-morning. Afternoon: forest buffer zone walk, birding, and rest before tomorrow's gorilla trek.
Day 4
GORILLA TREK DAY — 1 Hour with Mountain Gorillas
7:30am departure for your gorilla trek. Armed rangers, expert trackers, your Roam Beyond guide. Trek through Bwindi's ancient forest. Find your gorilla family. Spend a full 60 minutes with them — this is the moment the whole trip has been building toward. Afternoon: Batwa cultural walk. Overnight Bwindi.
Day 5
Optional Second Gorilla Trek OR Bwindi Village Walk + Lake Bunyonyi
Option A: Add a second gorilla trek today (additional $800 permit). Option B: Morning village walk and community engagement in the Bwindi area, then drive 1.5 hours to Lake Bunyonyi for an afternoon on the lake. Overnight Bunyonyi.
Day 6
Lake Bunyonyi / Bwindi → Return to Entebbe / Kampala
Morning at leisure. Drive north through Kabale and the Kigezi highlands to Kampala/Entebbe. Arrive by evening.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the tree-climbing lions and why are they special?
The lions of Ishasha in Queen Elizabeth NP have a unique learned behaviour — they climb into the branches of large fig trees (typically 5–10m off the ground) to rest, escape ground-level insects, and scan their territory. This behaviour is virtually unique to Ishasha and a small pride in Tanzania's Lake Manyara. Seeing a lion in a tree is one of Africa's most distinctive wildlife sightings.
Can I add chimpanzee tracking at Kyambura Gorge?
Yes. Kyambura Gorge — 'the Valley of Apes' — is inside Queen Elizabeth NP and home to a small isolated chimp community. Tracking them is a dramatic experience: descending into the gorge through fig forest to find chimps. Kyambura chimp permits are $50pp and can be added to Day 2. Let us know and we'll arrange it.
